Australia Post has launched a new next-day delivery service called “Metro.” This marks its first delivery service in recent years. The aim is to provide more efficient and reliable service to eligible retailers and their customers when shopping online.

The service has been introduced in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane. There are also plans to expand to new metropolitan areas in the coming months. It is primarily available to select retailers. However, more retailers are expected to join in the coming weeks or months. This service is a direct response to the ever-changing demands of consumers. Data shows that 68% of online shoppers may abandon their purchases if they consider the delivery too slow.

Paul Graham, CEO and Chairman of the Australia Post Group said, “As consumers demand fast delivery, it is projected that one out of every three retail dollars spent will be online in the next ten years. Therefore, the flexibility and reliability offered by next-day delivery services are becoming increasingly important to customers. To support this new service and ensure it meets the requirements of next-day delivery, the Group has streamlined its backend systems to quickly identify Australia Post’s Metro service orders and prioritize next-day delivery. The Group has also worked closely with retailers to ensure their distribution centers prioritize Australia Post Metro service orders.”

Australia’s Minister for Communications, Michelle Rowland, said, “We welcome the new Metro service, which is great news for Australian consumers and retailers. As more Australians embrace the digital economy, postal services must meet their demands. Next-day delivery is a win-win for retailers and consumers, and the Group looks forward to seeing its expansion after the trial period.”
